Omnivore chef Jeremiah Stone  took me to his favorite bakery in Paris, where you can get the Kouign Aman pastry (Queen Aman, in “American” English) usually only available in Brittany. The strange name is not French or Arabic, but in the Brittany dialect and means “cake” and “butter.” In my world cake + butter = tasty goodness.

Blé Sucré is in the 12th arrondisement on rue Antoine Vollon along Square Trousseau, not too far from Bastille. It’s known for having the best Madeleines in Paris, amazing croissaints, but do try to koign aman if you go. Prices are affordable because it’s a bit from the center of Paris.
